Howdy. (2009). What If Teachers Were Paid Like Bankers And Bankers Were Paid Like Teachers? Retrieved 27, August 2009, from http://kheam.blogspot.com/2009/02/what-if-teachers-were-paid-like-bankers.html Imagine a world where your average teacher earns a six figure base salary. Plus bonuses and they will be firmly ensconced in the millionaires club. Also in this imaginary world, bankers would be lucky to make six figures annually, in total. Why do we pay an industry that only creates illusory value, astronomically more than other industries or professions that is responsible for educating our children, inventing the next wheel or adding tangible value to our society's well being? Shouldn't the person teaching our next generation be better incentivised to impart knowledge, wisdom, skills and values? Shouldn't the person ensuring the safety, security and well being of society be rewarded for doing so? Shouldn't society reward human endeavour and disincentivise human greed? Impossible because that would then make us all non-human? Well, all I can say is, Mrs Krabappel, you deserve to be a banker.
I wonder what such a world would be like from the point of view of our value systems, spiritual well being and life perspectives? Or does this world only reside in one's fantasies and is not worth dreaming about?
But underlying such dreams is the central unanswered issue that has afflicted our society from the beginning of time.
